San Antonio City officials joined us Wednesday morning at the Cliff Morton Center. It was inspiring to meet with one of Dr. Forgey's previous students, David McGowen who is now a City official. This evidences, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for his students. It was interesting to hear how he is working with the development community to bring projects to the City. We also met with the City Architect, Betty Feldman who had been very successful on the private side for many years and traveled too much and decided to join the public sector and provide her talent to the City. Laurence Doxsey with the Office of Environmental Management rode over on his bicycle to join us. The bicycle share program is just one of the initiatives for employees. They can check out a bike and ride it anywhere they want even to lunch if they choose. To close the morning we meet with Jesus Garza and Sylvia Cortez of the Planning and Development Services Department. They primarily spoke about code enforcement from a historic preservation standpoint as well as life/safety code violations. I can only imagine how difficult a job these two have in enforcing code with ever changing challenges and issues. There was much student discussion around code enforcement and if it was this lively in a hypothetical situation, I can see where the real world would be equally, if not more lively. It was encouraging to see they were so understanding and helpful in helping people through the inspection process.
